- The tugboat incorporates a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system along with battery energy storage, providing flexibility for low-load and peak-load operations.
- The system is designed to meet current and future environmental regulations while ensuring performance in challenging marine conditions.
- VINSSEN, known for its eco-friendly propulsion systems, plans to showcase its vessels and technologies at Sea Asia 2025 in Singapore, emphasizing sustainability and innovation.
VINSSEN has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the approval in principle (AiP) certification from the Korean Register for what is described as South Korea's first tugboat equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system. In collaboration with KRE and the Korean Register, the joint-research project has led to the development of a 2,700kW hydrogen fuel cell-powered electric tugboat. The innovative design includes a system that utilizes hydrogen fuel for operations and stores excess electricity in batteries, ensuring readiness for future energy demands. During high-output situations, the stored battery energy supplements the fuel cell's power, providing steady propulsion for peak-load operations. The company emphasizes that the system complies with current and forthcoming environmental regulations while delivering reliable performance in demanding marine environments. VINSSEN's propulsion system goes beyond hydrogen fuel cells by incorporating battery energy storage systems, showcasing a green solution for the maritime industry. Additionally, VINSSEN will exhibit its environmentally friendly vessels and propulsion technologies at Sea Asia 2025, scheduled to take place in Singapore. The company's dedication to sustainability is evident in its focus on transforming traditional diesel-powered vessels into eco-friendly ships using electric and hydrogen technologies. With over 50 patents in the field, VINSSEN continues to drive innovation in the marine industry, as demonstrated by the development of a leisure boat powered by a 600kW propulsion system that includes hydrogen fuel cells and high-voltage batteries.
