The Scottish Government has announced up to £7 million in funding to support the development of green hydrogen projects across the country. The funding will assist projects ranging from 5 to 400 megawatts in capacity, with the potential to heat over 16,000 homes. In addition to aiding in the development costs, the funding will also support the hydrogen supply chain and storage solutions to facilitate the industry's scaling up in response to market demand. Scottish Enterprise, in collaboration with the government, will manage the fund, with organizations having the opportunity to apply for match-funding until the end of the month. The investment aims to contribute to Scotland's goal of achieving 5 GW of hydrogen production capacity by 2030 and 25 GW by 2045, positioning the country as a significant player in the European hydrogen market. The funding announcement coincides with the release of the Scottish Government's Green Industrial Strategy, which highlights hydrogen production as a crucial element for economic growth and employment generation, particularly in rural regions. The initiative is expected to unlock opportunities for hydrogen use, export, and clean energy-intensive industries, in alignment with the country's net zero targets.
