Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries has announced a partnership with the state of Odisha in eastern India to establish a green hydrogen plant and industrial park. The plant, with a capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes, will be developed by Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, creating more than 2,000 job opportunities in the region. Additionally, the company's unit, Sembcorp Development, will evaluate the feasibility of an industrial park in Odisha. This initiative comes at a time when India is ramping up its investments in renewable energy to achieve its 2030 clean energy goals, following a shortfall in its 2022 targets. India, the world's third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2070 and a renewable energy capacity of 500 gigawatts by 2030. The move reflects a broader trend in the country, with major power producers increasingly investing in clean energy to support the government's initiatives for a sustainable energy transition.
