Toyota is launching a research institute in Beijing in partnership with Tsinghua University to delve into car technology utilizing hydrogen power and other green technologies. The Tsinghua-Toyota Joint Research Institute is dedicated to researching cars and pioneering new technologies to tackle environmental issues in China, including reducing traffic accidents. Additionally, the institute will focus on advancing the utilization of hydrogen energy to address China's energy dilemmas. This move aligns with Toyota's recent announcement to grant car manufacturers and suppliers worldwide access to approximately 24,000 patents for electric vehicle technologies. Toyota's Executive Vice President, Shigeki Terashi, disclosed plans for Toyota to act as a tier 2 supplier of hybrid systems, with already over 50 companies expressing interest.
