Coastal communities in Ross-shire are set to benefit from a multi-million pound fund aimed at boosting the country's clean energy sector as part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC). The competition, which supports technologies like electric, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and wind power, is part of the Government's Plan for Change with an additional £30 million in funding to drive regional economies and create job opportunities. Previous rounds of the competition have already led to successful projects such as the installation of electric charge point networks and the retrofit of a hydrogen research vessel. The current focus is on GT Wings' AirWing, an innovative wind propulsion system being assembled in Hull to reduce vessel emissions by up to 30%. This project not only showcases the potential of clean maritime technologies but also highlights the economic benefits for the region, positioning Hull as a hub for maritime innovation. The CMDC, managed by Innovate UK, aims to accelerate the decarbonization of the UK maritime sector through research and development, with a total investment of £159 million. The collaboration between industry leaders, government funding, and innovative solutions is driving the transformation towards a sustainable maritime industry while creating job opportunities and boosting local economies.
