The EU Commission has announced the funding of various green infrastructure projects across Europe as part of the second phase of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF). This investment will support the installation of thousands of electric recharging points for light and heavy-duty vehicles, with a particular emphasis on electric trucks. Major beneficiaries include CPO Milence, a joint venture by Daimler Truck, Traton, and Volvo Group, which will receive 111 million euros to build 64 truck charging parks in several European countries. The EU is also directing funds towards hydrogen infrastructure development, aiming to set up 35 hydrogen refuelling stations and promote the decarbonisation of airports and ports. Companies like Air Products in Germany and HVR Energy in Spain are among those receiving funding for hydrogen projects. Additionally, the initiative includes plans to electrify ground handling services at airports and greening efforts at ports. The AFIF, with a substantial budget of 1 billion euros, is focused on promoting the decarbonisation of transport infrastructure along the European TEN-T network. Through a mix of grants and co-financing, the EU Commission aims to maximize the impact of these investments in advancing sustainable transportation in the region. With ongoing funding rounds scheduled, the EU remains committed to driving green innovation in the transportation sector.
