Honda has commenced the production of the all-new 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV, the first production hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle in the United States. This milestone was celebrated at the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio. The CR-V e:FCEV is the only FCEV manufactured in America and integrates a U.S.-made fuel cell system with plug-in EV charging capabilities. It boasts a 270-mile EPA driving range, combining the fuel cell system with plug-in charging to provide both EV driving and fast hydrogen refueling. The PMC technicians, leveraging their experience from building the Acura NSX, overcame various challenges in producing the CR-V e:FCEV. They dealt with new assembly processes, including subassembling hydrogen tanks, installing the fuel cell system, and incorporating the under-floor battery. Transitioning to the CR-V e:FCEV also required modifications in welding processes and the paint system due to the vehicle's structure and materials. The production of the CR-V e:FCEV at PMC serves as a foundation for future manufacturing of battery electric vehicles at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, especially in terms of software integration for the Integrated Power Unit. This endeavor aligns with Honda's goal of achieving carbon neutrality for its products and operations, showcasing a positive step towards sustainable mobility in the automotive industry.
