Innovative Solution to Eliminate Foul Smell from Sewage Pumping Station in Srinivasa Nagar
Key Ideas
- IEC FABCHEM Ltd. commissioned a machine at Srinivasa Nagar in Kumbakonam to neutralize foul odour from a sewage pumping station.
- The machine effectively reduced hydrogen sulphide levels from 25-30 ppm to 0 using bio trickling filter with special microbes.
- Residents of Srinivasa Nagar were relieved from unpleasant odours as the machine eliminated not only hydrogen sulphide but also other odorous compounds.
- The sustainable machine operates continuously without the need for chemical feed, relying only on water for its daily function.
In a recent development, a machine designed to neutralize odours emanating from the sewage pumping station at Srinivasa Nagar, Sakkottai near Kumbakonam, has been successfully commissioned. The Chennai-based company, IEC FABCHEM Ltd., specializing in public health engineering, addressed the residents' complaints about foul smells, particularly hydrogen sulphide, originating from the sewage wells near the Kumbakonam Corporation's sewage treatment plant. To tackle this issue effectively, the company installed a bio trickling filter machine equipped with special microbes to neutralize the hydrogen sulphide odour and other compounds like nitrogen and mercaptans. Following the installation, the hydrogen sulphide levels drastically decreased from the initial 25-30 ppm to 0, as confirmed by a baseline study. Notably, this continuous-duty machine operates sustainably without the need for chemical inputs, relying solely on water for its daily operation. The successful implementation of this innovative solution not only eliminated the foul odours but also improved the living conditions for the residents of Srinivasa Nagar, offering a promising outcome for environmental and public health concerns in the area.
