The Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT) recently unveiled the first public hydrogen refuelling station for buses in Europe at the Entrevías Operations Centre. This initiative marks a significant milestone in sustainable public mobility in Spain, demonstrating a strong dedication to alternative fuels infrastructure. The station is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a PEM electrolyser capable of producing 18 kg of hydrogen per hour, compressors, storage tanks operating at different pressures, and safe Cetil dispensers for hydrogen filling. The hydrogen buses on line 145 enjoy quick refuelling times and a substantial operational range, further promoting the usage of clean fuels in public transport. Moreover, the project, led by Spanish companies, showcases a holistic approach to the hydrogen cycle, emphasizing production, compression, storage, and distribution. EMT's collaboration with Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and plans for expansion into cities like Porto, Cascais, Germany, and Poland highlight a broader commitment to sustainable mobility and technological innovation. The project not only positions Madrid as a pioneer in clean public transport but also sets a precedent for enhancing the European hydrogen market with efficient and eco-friendly solutions.
