Norwegian company Econnect Energy is making strides in the expansion of Germany's liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Wilhelmshaven with the installation of a cutting-edge floating jetty. Following Russia's decline as Europe's main gas supplier due to geopolitical reasons, Norwegian firms have taken the lead in supplying gas to the region. Econnect's innovative floating platform and submerged pipe system have been selected by Tree Energy Solution (TES) and France's Engie ENGI for their floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at Wilhelmshaven, showcasing the efficiency and environmental benefits of the solution. The CEO of Econnect highlighted the speed of installation and lower environmental impact of their system compared to traditional concrete jetties, emphasizing its versatility for potential use in CO2 transfer. Furthermore, Econnect aims to expand its infrastructure to support cleaner energy alternatives like green ammonia, hydrogen, and carbon capture, aligning with the global shift towards sustainable energy sources. The Wilhelmshaven LNG terminal, equipped with Econnect's system, is poised to play a vital role in meeting a significant portion of Germany's gas demand, marking a milestone for the company's expansion into cleaner energy solutions beyond natural gas applications.
