SK Plug Hibus Completes First Liquefied Hydrogen Charging Station in Gyeonggi-do
Key Ideas
  • SK Plug Hibus completes the first liquefied hydrogen charging station in Gyeonggi-do, capable of charging 120 buses per day.
  • The station is part of a joint venture between SK E&S and Plug Power, promoting hydrogen business and supporting the Ministry of Environment's initiative.
  • The facility receives liquefied hydrogen from SK E&S' Incheon plant, capable of producing 30,000 tons per year, contributing to a stable hydrogen supply ecosystem.
  • SK E&S aims to expand the use of liquefied hydrogen for large commercial vehicles, such as buses, creating a more sustainable transportation system.
SK Plug Hibus, a subsidiary of SK E&S, completed the Icheon Daeheung liquefied hydrogen charging station in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, capable of charging 120 buses daily. The station, a part of a joint venture with Plug Power, is the first of its kind in Gyeonggi-do, underlining the commitment to hydrogen infrastructure. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Environment's support for hydrogen charging stations. The station's construction started in August 2023 and successfully completed test operations. It features a 4-ton liquefied hydrogen storage tank, a cryogenic pump, and two charging dispensers. Positioned at SK Hynix's Icheon Campus, the station will fuel SK Hynix's commuter buses as part of an ESG agreement. The facility, receiving hydrogen from SK E&S' Incheon plant, which can produce 30,000 tons annually, contributes to stable hydrogen supply. SK E&S plans to expand the use of liquefied hydrogen for commercial vehicles like buses, aiding in creating a sustainable transportation system.
