Valenciaport and Saggas Collaborate on Renewable Gases for Maritime Decarbonization
Key Ideas
- Valenciaport and Saggas sign MoU to collaborate on renewable gases and CO2 projects for maritime decarbonization.
- Focus on storage, generation, and logistics for renewable gases like hydrogen and bioLNG to support green initiatives.
- Initiatives align with European Green Pact, Fuel Maritime initiative, and Valenciaport's 2030 Zero Emissions strategy.
- Port of València prioritizes 2030 Agenda with projects like H2PORTS for green hydrogen and wind energy installations.
Spanish gas company Saggas and Valenciaport have officially partnered through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly work on development projects related to renewable gases and CO2 in Valencia. The collaboration aims to focus on storage, generation, and logistics for renewable gases such as hydrogen and bioLNG, leveraging synergies with operations at the Sagunto regasification plant.
The key objectives of the partnership include meeting the decarbonization needs of the maritime-port sector, supporting compliance with various environmental regulations like the European Green Pact, Fuel Maritime initiative, and AFIR, and addressing the infrastructure requirements for alternative fuels. The agreement aligns with Saggas' interest in the renewable gas and CO2 infrastructure sector and the energy transition plan led by the Port Authority of València.
Valenciaport's commitment to the 2030 Agenda is evident through initiatives like H2PORTS to introduce green hydrogen, the installation of an electrical substation for connecting ships to shore power, and the use of wind turbines for generating wind energy. The port's environmental strategy 'Valenciaport 2030 Zero Emissions' has already gained support from 42 private companies.
Furthermore, the port has tested innovative solutions like an electrically powered airship equipped with sensors and instruments for analyzing environmental, security, and maritime traffic control parameters. This collaboration signifies a positive step towards sustainable maritime operations and contributes to the global efforts for a greener future.
