US manufacturer Air Products has announced plans to establish a network of hydrogen refuelling stations in Europe, strategically located near the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) to support fuel cell trucks and buses. Although the exact number of stations is not specified, it is expected to be influenced by subsidies. The company has already secured funding from the EU Commission and North Rhine-Westphalia for existing and planned hydrogen filling stations in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. These stations will enhance reliability and convenience for heavy-duty transportation using hydrogen. Additionally, Air Products is involved in Mercedes-Benz's GenH2 customer trials, testing fuel cell trucks under real-life conditions and utilizing a mobile fuelling station in Duisburg. Expanding beyond Europe, Air Products is also set to build hydrogen refuelling station networks in California and Canada. In California, the high-capacity stations will accommodate up to 200 heavy-duty trucks or 2,000 cars daily, contributing to the state's emission reduction goals. Similarly, the stations in Canada, starting in Alberta, will support decarbonization efforts in regions where hydrogen is crucial for long-distance travel in extreme climates. The company's initiatives reflect a positive outlook on the role of hydrogen in achieving zero-emissions transportation and advancing decarbonization in different parts of the world.
