Hyundai Motor Company introduced the Xcient fuel-cell-electric Class 8 heavy-duty truck at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2025 in Anaheim, California. This truck is specifically tailored for the North American market. The Xcient is equipped with a 180-kW hydrogen fuel cell system, two 90-kW stacks, a 72-kWh battery pack, and a 350-kW e-motor providing 2,237 Nm of torque. It boasts a driving range of up to 450 miles (724 km) under optimal conditions. With 10 hydrogen tanks and a total capacity of 68 kg, the truck can handle heavy-duty applications with a gross combination weight of up to 82,000 lb. (37,194 kg). Additional features include a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with physical buttons, and advanced driver-assistance systems such as forward collision avoidance assist and lane departure warning. Jerome Gregeois, director of commercial vehicle development at Hyundai America Technical Centre, highlighted design enhancements for better functionality and maintenance. Ken Ramirez, executive vice-president of Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized Hyundai's success with hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in Europe and its commitment to clean mobility. The company has deployed almost 3,000 fuel cell trucks and buses across 14 countries, contributing to carbon neutrality. The Xcient has been tested extensively in North America since 2021, including in British Columbia, focusing on efficiency, cooling, and collaboration with fleet operators to meet various customer needs.
