Hyzon, a hydrogen fuel cell system manufacturer, partnered with New Way Trucks and Recology to showcase North America's first hydrogen fuel cell electric refuse truck at an event attended by prominent figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom and U.S. Senator Alex Padilla. The event, hosted by the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES), celebrated a significant $12.6 billion investment to establish a Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub in California. Government officials emphasized the importance of hydrogen as an energy source, particularly for heavy-duty transportation. They highlighted the crucial role of public investment in driving private sector innovation, as demonstrated by ARCHES' massive commitment to hydrogen infrastructure projects in the U.S. The collaborative efforts of Hyzon and New Way Trucks have led to the development of a hydrogen-powered refuse truck, currently undergoing a customer trial with Recology. This initiative represents a pivotal step towards decarbonization in the waste management industry and signifies a shift towards sustainable, zero-emission solutions. The ARCHES project, supported by substantial federal funding and public-private investments, is poised to create over 220,000 direct jobs and establish a network of clean hydrogen production sites and fueling stations across the country.
