Daimler Truck has initiated customer field trials for the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks in Woerth am Rhein, Germany. The trials involve major companies like Air Products, Amazon, Holcim, INEOS Inovyn, and Wiedmann & Winz, who will use the trucks for long-distance transport to gain practical experience. These trials aim to provide insights into real-world operation and customer requirements for the development of hydrogen fuel cell trucks. The GenH2 trucks are based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros long-haul truck, offering a payload of around 25 tons and a range of over 1,000 kilometers through two liquid hydrogen tanks and a fuel cell system. Customers such as Air Products, Holcim, and INEOS express optimism about the transition to hydrogen-powered trucks for reducing emissions and ensuring sustainability in their logistics operations. INEOS plans to expand deliveries using the fuel cell trucks beyond Germany, into Belgium and the Netherlands by 2025. This initiative is seen as a vital step towards achieving a zero-emission future in the transport sector, with companies leveraging their expertise in hydrogen production and distribution to support Daimler Truck's innovative approach to sustainable transportation.
