Tasmanian Transport Association's Groundbreaking Decarbonisation Collaboration
Key Ideas
- TTA and Countrywide Hydrogen partnership aims to decarbonize Tasmania's long-haul freight sector by providing competitive hydrogen as an alternative to diesel.
- Hydrogen-powered trucks show promising performance metrics and cost advantages over diesel, signaling a shift towards zero-emission transport.
- The collaboration signifies a proactive step by TTA towards supporting members in adopting sustainable practices and driving the decarbonisation agenda.
- Tasmania's initiative in establishing a hydrogen highway and hydrogen production/refuelling network sets a precedent for sustainable transport infrastructure development.
The Tasmanian Transport Association (TTA) has teamed up with Australian renewable hydrogen project developer, Countrywide Hydrogen, to revolutionize the state's long-haul freight sector by introducing hydrogen as a competitive alternative to diesel. The collaboration was formalized at the TTA's 2024 Tasmanian Transport Industry State Conference, making it the first of its kind in Australia by a peak industry body. Countrywide Hydrogen's Managing Director highlights the economic viability and environmental benefits of utilizing hydrogen in heavy transport. With support from the Tasmanian Government, plans are underway to establish a network of hydrogen production and refuelling hubs to facilitate the transition to zero-emission transport. TTA Chairman emphasized the significance of this collaboration in advancing decarbonisation efforts in Tasmania's road transport industry. This strategic move aligns with TTA's mission to empower members with sustainable solutions and positions Tasmania as a pioneer in sustainable transport infrastructure with the establishment of a hydrogen highway.
