Tata Motors has launched trials for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks in India to address emissions in long-haul freight transport. Funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, this project evaluates hydrogen as a clean fuel alternative for commercial vehicles. The trial, inaugurated in New Delhi with the presence of Union Ministers, will include 16 hydrogen-powered trucks operating on various freight corridors. Tata Motors plans to use both Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle technologies for this trial, utilizing models like the Tata Prima H.55S prime movers and Tata Prima H.28 trucks. This initiative aims to provide insights into the commercial viability of hydrogen-powered trucks and the required infrastructure, aligning with India's ambition of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Tata Motors' efforts in alternative fuel solutions, including hydrogen technology, demonstrate a commitment to sustainable transport in India.
