Airbus and Avolon have joined forces to advance the development of hydrogen-powered aircraft, a key component of Airbus' ZEROe concept aircraft project. At the Farnborough Airshow, Airbus and Avolon announced their partnership, with Avolon becoming the first lessor involved in the ZEROe initiative. The collaboration aims to explore the financing and commercialization of these innovative aircraft, with a target of introducing a hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft to the market by 2035. This effort includes assessing how hydrogen-powered planes could be incorporated into the aircraft leasing model, focusing on the commercial and financial aspects for airlines. Additionally, Airbus has initiated the Hydrogen Hub at Airports' program, which involves 18 hubs working on the necessary infrastructure for a hydrogen transition. Among these partnerships is one with London Gatwick Airport and easyJet. Avolon, in addition to its collaboration with Airbus, has invested in Vertical Aerospace for eVTOL development and sustainable aviation fuel research. The company also aims to have 75% new-technology aircraft in its fleet by 2025 as part of its commitment to industry decarbonization.
