Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have jointly called for 'radical collaboration' among the government, aviation fuel providers, and the wider aviation industry to help achieve the industry's net-zero target by 2050. This collaboration was highlighted at the Sustainable Skies Summit 2024 in Farnborough, where industry leaders discussed the need for collective efforts to drive sustainable change. The focus is on near-term solutions such as fleet modernization and the widespread adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), as well as long-term innovations like hydrogen and electrification. Virgin Atlantic's CEO emphasized the importance of decarbonization and ensuring a green future for air travel, with SAF being a key part of the transition. The event also showcased the latest technologies from various companies and saw the announcement of a new Sustainable Aviation Fuel production project by Haffner Energy. This project, using thermolysis of local biomass residues, aims to contribute to the decarbonization of air travel.
