The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) in the Philippines has entered into an agreement with Australian aerospace firm AMSL Aero to explore the potential use of hydrogen-powered vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft in the country. AMSL Aero, a renowned player in sustainable aerospace technology, is known for its cutting-edge hydrogen-electric VTOL aircraft named Vertiia. The collaboration between BCDA and AMSL Aero will kick off a feasibility study to assess the viability of deploying these aircraft across BCDA properties. The VTOL aircraft powered by hydrogen could offer essential air bridges for passenger and freight transport, especially crucial in addressing the logistical hurdles presented by the Philippines' archipelagic nature. In addition to providing carbon-neutral transportation solutions, the partnership aims to set up hydrogen production plants to support this innovative technology. BCDA's president and CEO, Joshua Bingcang, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its alignment with the vision to turn New Clark City into a smart and sustainable metropolis with advanced energy and transport infrastructure. Moreover, AMSL Aero is contemplating investments in various sectors in the Philippines, including aerospace manufacturing, aviation operations, air logistics, aeromedical services, disaster relief, and defense. The CEO of AMSL Aero, Max York, pointed out the increasing global demand for hydrogen-powered VTOL technology and emphasized the interest garnered by their solutions in international markets, as evidenced by collaborations like the one with BCDA and a recent agreement with Life Flight New Zealand.
