Ecojet, a company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, is making significant strides towards carbon-free air travel by announcing the purchase of 22 ZA2000 hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia, with an option for 40 more. The airline, known as the 'world's first' electric commercial carrier, plans to start operations this year with conventionally powered aircraft, later retrofitting them with ZeroAvia's engines once certified. The ZA2000 engine, initially for 20-seat planes, will later be used in larger regional aircraft for domestic and international routes. Dale Vince, the Founder of Ecojet, and Val Miftakhov, Founder and CEO of ZeroAvia, express optimism about the future of hydrogen-electric aviation, highlighting its potential for sustainable and zero-emission transport. ZeroAvia's recent agreement with American Airlines for 100 hydrogen-electric engines further underscores the industry's shift towards eco-friendly aviation.
