  • Ecojet, based in Edinburgh, plans to purchase 22 ZA2000 hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia to achieve zero-emission flights, revolutionizing aviation.
  • Initially, Ecojet will use ZA600 engines for aircraft with up to 20 seats, with a commitment to order up to 70 hydrogen-electric engines for larger regional aircraft.
  • ZeroAvia's technology, producing electricity from hydrogen, will power the aircraft's propellers, enabling low-cost, efficient, and safe zero-emission air travel.
  • The company plans to start offering services by the end of 2024, gradually transitioning its fleet to hydrogen-electric engines for domestic and short international flights.
Edinburgh-based Ecojet has unveiled plans to purchase 22 ZA2000 hydrogen electric engines from ZeroAvia at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, aiming to achieve zero-emission flights. The Founder of EcoJet, Dale Vince, expressed the airline's mission to enable net-zero, emission-free air travel, marking a significant step towards sustainable aviation. These engines are tailored for regional turboprops with 40-80 seats, facilitating the transition to carbon-free operations. Initially, Ecojet will utilize ZA600 engines for up to 20 seats and has committed to procuring 70 hydrogen-electric engines. The eventual goal is to expand the fleet with larger regional aircraft for domestic and short international flights. ZeroAvia's technology harnesses electricity from hydrogen to power the aircraft's propellers, offering a revolutionary approach to zero-emission transport. The company plans to commence services by late 2024, starting with traditional fueled aircraft and retrofitting them with the new technology post-certification. Val Miftakhov, ZeroAvia's Founder and CEO, highlighted the role of hydrogen-electric aviation in enabling low-cost, efficient, and safe zero-emission transportation in the UK. ZeroAvia has already conducted tests on ZA600-engine prototypes and the ZA2000 system in both the US and UK, integrating cryogenic tanks for LH2, PEM fuel cell, and electric propulsion systems. Ecojet's initiative signifies a significant stride towards sustainable air travel, paving the way for a greener aviation industry.
