During the Farnborough Airshow, Embraer introduced new sustainable aircraft concepts, named Energia, showcasing advancements in the aviation industry. These developments include expanding research to cover 50 seater aircraft and introducing Hydrogen Gas Turbine/Dual Fuel technologies in addition to existing Hybrid Electric and Fuel Cell approaches. The Energia Advisory Group, comprising experienced aviation professionals, plays a crucial role in advising Embraer on sustainable aircraft development. Arjan Meijer, Embraer's President & CEO of Commercial Aviation, highlighted the importance of considering various factors like technology potential, infrastructure, and regulations to ensure the commercial viability of these concepts. The Energia concepts focus on attributes like advanced airframe design, cabin comfort, and quietness, tailored for different propulsion technologies. The Hybrid-Electric concepts feature a parallel hybrid electric powerplant, while Fuel Cell concepts prioritize zero carbon emissions and thermal management optimization. The Hydrogen/Dual Fuel concepts involve the use of hydrogen or dual fuel gas turbine engines, aiming for zero carbon emissions and low NOx levels. Emphasizing the need for complete feasibility in all aspects, Embraer aims to potentially introduce an Energia concept in the next decade, targeting sustainable and commercially viable aircraft for the future.
