H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, delivered the opening address at the National Consultation Workshop on Green Hydrogen, organized by the European Union. The workshop aimed to promote green hydrogen technology as part of the broader transition to a sustainable economy. Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of green hydrogen in tackling global environmental challenges, noting its role in decarbonizing industries like heavy manufacturing, maritime transport, and aviation. Egypt's ambition is to secure 8% of the global hydrogen market by 2040, leveraging its renewable energy resources and strategic location for green hydrogen production and export. The Green Hydrogen Incentives Law passed in Egypt lays the groundwork for attracting investments and developing regulatory frameworks necessary for a thriving green economy. Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted Egypt's advantages, including abundant renewable energy sources, developed infrastructure, and a strategic location for exporting green hydrogen. She emphasized the need for international cooperation, particularly with the European Union, to achieve Egypt's green hydrogen goals. The workshop outcomes will contribute to the EU-Egypt Green Hydrogen Investment Forum, shaping strategies for the industry's growth. Transitioning to a green hydrogen economy in Egypt will involve overcoming challenges like refining legislative frameworks, promoting public-private cooperation, developing infrastructure, and expanding international partnerships for technology exchange.
