Eternal Power, a Hamburg-based company, is set to establish a large-scale green hydrogen production plant in Dummerstorf, near Rostock, Germany. The plant, initially planned with a capacity of 80 megawatts, will produce 8,000 tons of green hydrogen annually from 2028, with expansion plans to reach 400 megawatts by 2030. The project has already secured purchase agreements amounting to 2.3 billion euros, indicating significant progress. The green hydrogen produced will cater primarily to energy-intensive sectors like shipping, aviation, and chemical and steel industries, contributing to the energy transition. The selection of Dummerstorf as the plant location was strategic, considering its advantages such as proximity to offshore wind farms, connection to the high-voltage grid, and the planned hydrogen core network. Eternal Power aims to optimize electricity procurement through software solutions to enhance the efficiency of the electrolysis plant. Moreover, the project aligns with Germany's emphasis on domestic green hydrogen production and the achievement of climate goals. The German government's support for the hydrogen market was evident through the approval of 500 million euros for hydrogen projects in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This funding underscores the importance of green hydrogen in the country's energy strategy.
