INERATEC, a sustainable e-fuel production pioneer based in Karlsruhe, Germany, announced a significant funding milestone. The company secured €40M in venture debt loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and €30M grant from Breakthrough Energy Catalyst. This backing will finance the construction of Europe's largest sustainable e-Fuel production plant in Frankfurt. The plant will focus on research and development of e-Fuel technologies for the future. The investment aims to scale up production capacity and commercialize reactor technology converting green hydrogen and CO2 into synthetic aviation fuel. This move supports the transition to a competitive net-zero economy, especially in hard-to-decarbonize sectors like aviation. INERATEC's CEO highlighted the significance of the funding in accelerating e-Fuel production industrialization to reduce CO2 emissions in sectors where direct electrification is not feasible. The company's production process uses hydrogen and CO2 from biogenic sources to produce synthetic crude oil for various sustainable fuels including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The plant in Frankfurt will annually produce 2,500 tons of e-fuel, meeting the demand driven by regulations like the ReFuelEU Aviation-regulation. The partnership between INERATEC, EIB, and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst underlines the commitment to green tech projects and critical climate technologies in Europe.
