Jetka's Revolutionary Hydrogen-Powered Seaplane Sets a New Standard for Eco-Friendly Air Travel
Key Ideas
  • Jetka partners with ZeroAvia to enhance PHA-ZE 100's range and payload using a hydrogen-electric propulsion system.
  • The fuel-cell system will increase the seaplane's range from 100 to 311 or 373 miles while lowering operating and maintenance costs.
  • ZeroAvia's successful testing of the hydrogen-electric powertrain in a demonstrator aircraft shows promising progress for the PHA-ZE 100.
  • The PHA-ZE 100 will offer various configurations catering to different needs, from commuter shuttles to VIP travel, cargo transport, and medical evacuation.
Jetka, a Swiss company, is collaborating with ZeroAvia to enhance the capabilities of the Passenger Hydro Aircraft Zero Emission 100 (PHA-ZE 100). Originally designed as a battery-electric aircraft, the PHA-ZE 100 will now incorporate a hydrogen-electric powertrain to enable longer and sustainable flights. This innovation is expected to significantly extend the seaplane's range to 311 or 373 miles and increase its payload capacity by up to a ton, while also reducing operational costs. ZeroAvia's successful testing of the hydrogen-electric powertrain in a 19-seat demonstrator aircraft showcases promising advancements for the PHA-ZE 100. The fuel-cell system will convert hydrogen into electricity to power the motors, offering a more efficient and eco-friendly solution for amphibious flights. Jetka foresees the PHA-ZE 100 revolutionizing air travel by providing zero-emission transportation across archipelagoes, with quieter operations and minimal environmental impact compared to traditional aircraft. The seaplane will eliminate the need for new airports due to its water takeoff and landing capabilities. The PHA-ZE 100 will be available in seven different configurations tailored to meet diverse needs, including economy, VIP, executive, cargo carrier, and ambulatory services. This versatility will enable the aircraft to serve a wide range of passengers and industries. While the timeline for launching the hydrogen-powered version of the PHA-ZE 100 has not been disclosed, Jetka plans to commence deliveries of the battery-powered variant by late 2028. The partnership between Jetka and ZeroAvia signifies a significant step towards sustainable aviation and sets a new standard for eco-friendly air travel.
