The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) recently unveiled the five nominees for the esteemed Collier Trophy, an award that has been recognizing outstanding achievements in aeronautics and astronautics in America since 1911. This year's nominees represent cutting-edge advancements in the aviation and space industries, with a focus on enhancing performance, efficiency, and safety of air and space vehicles. Among the nominees, the Gulfstream G700 stood out for its exceptional aircraft performance utilizing sustainable fuel and next-generation manufacturing processes. Blue Condor was acknowledged for its significant contribution to zero-carbon emission aircraft and research on hydrogen contrails. Another finalist, Skyryse One, is making waves in helicopter control by introducing the FlightOS automation system, allowing pilots to operate helicopters with simple finger swipes on a tablet. Skyryse One also achieved a milestone with the first fully automated helicopter takeoff and landing. In the space sector, NASA's Parker Solar Probe Team received recognition for designing the first spacecraft capable of operating within the Sun's corona. The X-37B was also acknowledged for its innovative approach to sustained space maneuvering through aerobraking, enabling efficient multi-orbital operations. The winner of the 2024 Collier Trophy will be announced on March 25, with the formal presentation scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., on June 12, 2025.
