Work has started on a new hydrogen refuelling station at Teesside International Airport, which will serve a wide range of hydrogen road vehicles, including trucks, vans, cars, and airport vehicles. The facility, managed by Element 2, is strategically located near the former St George Hotel and will provide both 700 and 350 bar refuelling options. This project is part of the Tees Valley Hydrogen Transport Hub, an initiative backed by the UK Government to establish public hydrogen refuelling stations in the region. Teesside Airport's support for hydrogen fuel dates back to 2021, with the temporary hosting of an Element 2 hydrogen refuelling station and the adoption of low-emission hydrogen-fuelled vehicles. The airport has also secured a renewable energy agreement for sustainable aviation fuel. The new hydrogen refuelling station is seen as a significant milestone in the airport's green energy ambitions. Element 2, a leading hydrogen refuelling business in the UK, has completed numerous refuelling events for various customers and vehicles since its establishment in 2020. The station is expected to generate employment opportunities at the airport and contribute to reducing transport emissions in the Tees Valley, aligning with the region's commitment to cleaner and sustainable transport solutions.
