A pioneering expedition is underway with three pilots attempting the first hydrogen open basket gas balloon crossing of the Atlantic. The team, comprised of British explorer Sir David Hempleman-Adams, American balloon manufacturer Bert Padelt, and Swiss scientist Dr Frederik Paulsen, have faced weather delays but are eager to embark on this historic journey. The crew plans to take off from Maine, conduct live television interviews via WhatsApp, and conduct experiments to study the impact of forest fires on the atmosphere. Supported by Torabhaig single malt whisky, the crew will use a Torabhaig Atlantic Explorer Balloon measuring 80 inches long and 60 inches wide. If successful, this voyage will set a milestone as the first Atlantic crossing in a hydrogen balloon.
