Revolutionizing Coastal Transport: Sea Cheetah's Hydrogen-Powered Vessel Partnership
Key Ideas
  • Sea Cheetah Corporation and H3 Dynamics have partnered to develop a hydrogen-powered wing-in ground effect vessel for coastal and island community connectivity.
  • H3 Dynamics will leverage its expertise to create a hydrogen-electric powertrain for the Sea Cheetah craft, aiming for speeds exceeding 135knts.
  • The partnership also involves deploying small green hydrogen production systems for rapid fueling, enabling zero-emission last-mile delivery to isolated communities.
  • The vessel is expected to be 10 times faster than boats, 10 times more fuel-efficient than aircraft, and able to carry 3 times more payload than competing air- and watercraft.
Sea Cheetah Corporation and H3 Dynamics have joined forces to develop a revolutionary hydrogen-powered wing-in ground effect vessel known as the Sea Cheetah WIGE. The aim of this partnership is to enhance coastal marine transport with zero-emission solutions, specifically targeting the connectivity of coastal and island communities. H3 Dynamics, with offices in Toulouse, France, and Austin, Texas, will utilize its hydrogen propulsion expertise to build a hydrogen-electric powertrain for the Sea Cheetah craft, allowing it to achieve speeds exceeding 135knts. This innovative vessel, flying just meters above the water, benefits from the 'Wing-in-GroundEffect' hull, leveraging proven technology for efficient travel both within and outside ground effect. By operating under 50ft, the craft avoids FAA regulation, aligning with the International Maritime Organisation's WIGE ship classification. The CEO of H3 Dynamics, Taras Wankewycz, highlighted the enhanced range and payload capacities enabled by the hybrid hydrogen-powered powertrain, expanding the usability and applications of such vessels globally. Additionally, the partnership will introduce decentralized green hydrogen production systems to facilitate quick fueling and vessel turnaround, supporting zero-emission last-mile deliveries to remote communities. Serge Markoff, founder and CEO of Sea Cheetah, emphasized the benefits of the lighter aircraft powertrain, enabling the vessel to carry significantly more payload, operate faster, and be more fuel-efficient compared to traditional air- and watercraft. This collaboration represents a significant step towards sustainable marine transport and showcases the potential of hydrogen technology in revolutionizing coastal connectivity.
