Russ Dunn, the chief technology officer of GKN Aerospace, has been appointed as the chair of the Hydrogen in Aviation Alliance (HIA) in the UK, succeeding Johan Lundgren, CEO of EasyJet. The alliance, formed in 2023, counts major industry players like Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Ørsted, and ZeroAvia among its members. The focus of HIA is to propel the UK's aviation and hydrogen sectors to a position of global leadership, particularly in hydrogen-powered aviation. HIA released its first report titled 'Launching Hydrogen-Powered Aviation' earlier this year, outlining the necessary steps for the UK Government and industry to secure a leading role in hydrogen aviation. The upcoming year will see HIA delving into the detailed recommendations of its Milestone Delivery Report, with a particular emphasis on airport infrastructure development and skill-building for a successful transition to hydrogen technology.
