Saudi Investment Recycling Co. (SIRC) has joined forces with the German company Concord Blue to establish a groundbreaking project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This collaboration aims to construct a facility that will transform sewage into renewable hydrogen, marking a significant advancement in sustainable energy practices. The memorandum of understanding signed between the two entities outlines the first phase of the project, which will utilize Concord Blue Reformer technology to process sewage and organic waste into valuable energy sources through a non-combustion reforming process. The initiative is in line with SIRC's commitment to implementing effective waste reduction strategies, accelerating the adoption of renewable energy solutions, and advocating for environmental justice principles. Moreover, it resonates with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Environment's ambitious plan to recycle up to 95 percent of the country's waste, showcasing a strong dedication to environmental sustainability. Faisal Al-Solami, the executive vice president of finance and strategic planning at SIRC, highlighted that the partnership will involve utilizing sewage and agricultural waste as raw materials, which will be converted into renewable hydrogen by Concord Blue. Additionally, Concord Blue will play a crucial role in knowledge transfer by training local talents to operate and maintain facilities that convert waste into hydrogen, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in green energy technologies. Upon successful implementation, the project is projected to recycle approximately 100 million tonnes of waste annually, demonstrating a substantial stride towards achieving a circular carbon economy and reducing environmental impact.
