Swiss aviation startup Sirius Aviation is set to unveil its groundbreaking hydrogen-electric luxury business aircraft, the Sirius Jet, at London’s MOVE Expo. This innovative aircraft, designed in partnership with BMW Group’s consultancy Designworks and Formula 1 team Sauber Group, is the world’s first hydrogen-powered Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft. CEO Alexey Popov envisions addressing 'flight shaming' in the private sector by offering a zero-emission alternative that saves time and operation costs. The hydrogen-propulsion system of the Sirius Jet draws in oxygen to react with hydrogen stored in a fuselage tank, producing electricity to power motors and water vapor, which is then released through the exhaust. With plans to launch two configurations by 2025—the Sirius Business Jet accommodating three passengers with a range of 1150 miles, and the Sirius Millenium Jet catering to commercial needs with five passengers and a 650-mile range—Sirius Aviation anticipates a shift towards sustainable aviation in both luxury and commercial sectors. The company foresees high profit margins in the luxury market, aiming to reinvest in scaling the company and developing larger hydrogen-powered aircraft.
