Spain has taken a significant step towards becoming a dominant force in Europe's green hydrogen economy by announcing a massive funding injection of €1.22 billion for seven hydrogen hub megaprojects across various regions. The funding, under the H2 Valleys programme, is aimed at establishing large-scale domestic hydrogen production and industrial usage. In addition to this, Spain is investing €297.3 million in 34 strategic manufacturing projects focusing on electrolyser systems, wind and solar components, battery technologies, and heat pumps to enhance energy sovereignty and industrial competitiveness amidst growing global clean tech competition. Some of the notable projects that secured funding include RIC Energy's Compostilla project combining green hydrogen with captured biomass CO₂ for sustainable aviation fuels, Naturgy and Enagás Renovable's León Green Hydrogen Valley supplying hydrogen to Fertiberia, and HyBerus' electrolysis capacity installation for e-fuels. The funding also went to projects like the Catalina project by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and partners, a hydrogen and ammonia plant in Galicia, and the Andalusian Hydrogen Valley. Major players such as Repsol, Naturgy, Enagás Renovable, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners are at the forefront of Spain's green hydrogen revolution, signaling a positive outlook for the country's sustainable energy future.
