Unlocking Economic Benefits Through Advanced Air Mobility in the UK
Key Ideas
  • The AAM sector in the UK, focusing on electric and hydrogen aircraft, could bring £1.7 billion in economic benefits, according to a study by EA Maven.
  • Regional Air Mobility offers 684 potential routes, targeting approximately 430 million travelers annually, with a significant focus on reducing carbon emissions.
  • Urban Air Mobility targets 316 million travelers annually, with a primary goal of saving time and reducing carbon emissions through the use of eVTOL aircraft.
  • The study highlights the need for substantial renewable energy generation to support the energy demands of these aircraft, emphasizing the importance of an energy strategy for Advanced Air Mobility.
A recent study by consultancy firm EA Maven has shed light on the potential economic benefits of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector in the United Kingdom. The research delves into both Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and Regional Air Mobility (RAM), identifying viable routes for commercial aviation services across the UK. The study emphasizes the importance of transitioning travelers from cars to electric or hydrogen aircraft to enhance sustainability. EA Maven's analysis revealed 684 potential routes for Regional Air Mobility, targeting around 430 million travelers annually. This transition could result in significant time savings for travelers as well as a reduction in carbon emissions. On the Urban Air Mobility front, there are 316 million travelers annually, with a focus on utilizing eVTOL aircraft to save time and reduce carbon emissions. The study underlines the need for substantial renewable energy generation to power these aircraft, especially in urban areas where electricity supply may be limited. RAM is highlighted as a sector with immense potential, offering three times as many routes as UAM and providing an economic impact that is eight times greater in terms of time savings. The study advocates for a strong energy strategy to support the growth of Advanced Air Mobility in the UK, recognizing the importance of sustainability and efficiency in aviation services.
