Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) in India has announced plans to construct 65 ships worth 22,000 crores for Indian and international clients, with a focus on green technologies. These ships will be fueled by green energy sources like green hydrogen, methanol, electricity, and hybrid batteries to reduce carbon emissions in the maritime sector. CSL is looking to collaborate with European Shipping Technology Companies for technology transfer to manufacture modern ships. The shipyard, primarily based in Kochi, also has subsidiary companies in Kolkata and Udupi, Karnataka, producing coastal vessels and green ships. Additionally, CSL is investing in new facilities, including a 310 m long dry dock in Kochi, to enhance its shipbuilding capacity. The Udupi and Hooghly facilities will cater to international clients and focus on green ships and coastal vessels, while the Kochi facility will serve the Indian Navy and demonstrate new technologies. The recent construction of India's largest dredger, DCI Dredge Godavari, in collaboration with Royal IHC from the Netherlands, highlights CSL's commitment to advancing India's maritime capabilities. This trailing suction hopper dredger will be a significant addition to India's dredging fleet upon commissioning.
