Green Coast Project: Decarbonizing Maritime Transport with E-Methanol Production in France
Key Ideas
  • Lhyfe and Elyse Energy plan to develop e-methanol production from green hydrogen at Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port for decarbonizing maritime transport.
  • The Green Coast project aims to establish an industrial unit with significant green hydrogen production capacity by 2028.
  • Synergy between the project leaders will facilitate the study of e-methanol production feasibility, benefitting local industry and mobility decarbonization.
  • The initiative is part of the Loire Estuaire Décarbonation program and is supported by various organizations to promote low carbon industrial practices in France.
Lhyfe and Elyse Energy have announced their collaboration to work on the Green Coast project aimed at producing e-methanol from green hydrogen at Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port in France. This development is crucial for decarbonizing the maritime transport industry, with e-methanol being a key fuel in this process. The project involves setting up an industrial unit with a significant green hydrogen production capacity, with plans to produce up to 85 tonnes per day by 2028. The partnership between Lhyfe and Elyse Energy will focus on the feasibility of producing e-methanol from green hydrogen, with the surplus production being utilized for decarbonizing local industry and mobility. The project, situated in the Montoir-de-Bretagne industrial port hub, aims to contribute to the overall decarbonization efforts in the region. The initiative is part of the larger Loire Estuaire Décarbonation program, supported by France 2030 and various local organizations, to promote low-carbon industrial practices. The project is currently in the development phase, with the first results from the feasibility studies expected to be revealed in 2025, pending necessary approvals and investments.
