Innovative Solutions in Maritime Technology
Key Ideas
  • Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) is providing an advanced integrated bridge system, dynamic positioning, electric distribution, and automation for a DNV-classed newbuild FSV, incorporating energy-efficient solutions.
  • The use of closed bus-tie configuration by NES enhances energy efficiency, optimizes power-sharing, reduces fuel consumption and emissions, engine hours, and maintenance costs, as endorsed by DNV.
  • NES's innovative Quadro Master switchboard and Odin’s Eye technology enable a DC-ring system configuration, promoting active and reactive power-sharing across bus ties to mitigate failure modes and improve system reliability.
  • Riviera's Maritime Hybrid, Electric & Hydrogen Fuel Cells Conference in Bergen, Norway, scheduled for October 2024, will facilitate networking among industry leaders focusing on maritime electrification and alternative fuel technologies.
Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) under HAV Group is set to supply an integrated bridge system, dynamic positioning, electric distribution, and automation for a DNV-classed newbuild FSV. Their advanced solutions include the IAS and Raven INS systems, along with a closed bus-tie configuration for energy efficiency. By incorporating frequency converters, electric motors, battery systems, and their proprietary Quadro Master switchboard, NES aims to optimize power-sharing and reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The use of active and reactive power-sharing across bus ties is noted for its ability to enhance system reliability and reduce maintenance costs. The first deliveries for this project are expected in Q2 2025, with final deliveries and commissioning in Q2 2026. Additionally, NES will be hosting a networking event on the cruise-ferry Havila Polaris in Bergen as part of Riviera's upcoming Maritime Hybrid, Electric & Hydrogen Fuel Cells Conference in October 2024. This conference will gather industry stakeholders focusing on maritime electrification, propulsion technologies, and the use of alternative fuels to drive sustainable practices in the maritime sector.
