Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has officially become part of the e-NG Coalition, a global alliance focused on advancing e-methane, a revolutionary fuel aimed at decreasing carbon emissions. Announced on March 1, 2025, MOL's entry into the coalition signifies a crucial step in propelling the growth and acceptance of e-methane, a synthetic fuel composed of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. E-methane is gaining prominence as a more environmentally friendly substitute for traditional fossil fuels due to its minimal ecological footprint. A notable advantage of e-methane is its compatibility with existing LNG-powered ships without requiring expensive alterations, making it a pragmatic solution for curbing emissions in the maritime sector. With over four decades of experience in LNG transport, MOL is well-positioned to contribute to the expansion of e-methane as a marine fuel and facilitate the establishment of a global supply network for artificial fuels. This move is in line with MOL's BLUE ACTION 2035 strategy, which places a strong emphasis on environmental endeavors, including the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The e-NG Coalition, now comprising 20 members, is dedicated to creating a reliable international supply chain for e-methane while championing environmental standards and fostering cooperation among industry stakeholders engaged in its production and distribution. The overarching objective of the alliance is to advocate for e-methane as a pivotal component of a carbon-neutral society, driving the maritime industry towards a sustainable and greener future.
