Trafigura Group Pte Ltd has successfully completed its first ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of ammonia in international waters close to the port of Ceuta in the Strait of Gibraltar. This milestone operation involved the transfer of 6,000 metric tonnes of ammonia from the Green Power Medium Gas Carrier to the Gas Aegean for delivery to Fertiberia for fertilizer production. The successful STS operation, conducted by International Fender Provider, marks a significant step in the ammonia industry's adoption of such transfers. Trafigura's Head of Wet Freight highlighted the importance of this transfer in supporting their growing ammonia trading activity and its implications for future ammonia bunkering to enable the shipping industry's decarbonization. The company's commitment to reducing the greenhouse gas intensity of its shipping fleet and exploring low-carbon marine fuels is evident in its testing of various alternative fuels and investment in emissions capture technology. Moreover, Trafigura's partnership with Purus for the historic STS transfer demonstrates a dedication to energy transition cargoes and cleaner shipping solutions. The company's investments in efficiency measures and involvement in industry coalitions and forums further underline its proactive approach towards sustainable shipping practices and reducing emissions. With plans for low-carbon ammonia-fueled vessels and ongoing efforts in clean energy transition, Trafigura is at the forefront of pioneering initiatives in the shipping and commodities industry.
