The program operates on a collaborative model where commercial partners work on developing minimum viable products through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with shared investments. Jacob Spendelow from Los Alamos highlights the potential to reduce costs and improve durability to create a competitive advantage in the global hydrogen and fuel cell industry, estimated at $2.5 trillion across various sectors. The program seeks partners until Feb. 15, aiming to establish licensing and collaboration agreements to transition catalyst and electrode technologies to the commercial market. The focus areas include heavy and medium-duty transportation, stationary fuel cell applications critical to infrastructure, and more. L’Innovator 2.0 includes a cost-sharing agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office, providing access to high-potential intellectual property. The program builds on the success of its pilot, enabling partners to license intellectual property and develop new technologies.
