Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and KPIT Technologies have joined forces to drive hydrogen-based mobility initiatives in Kerala. The collaboration, part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, focuses on establishing Hydrogen Refuelling Stations in Kochi and Trivandrum to support pilot mobility projects and pave the way for hydrogen-powered public transport. The project, under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, will incorporate indigenous technologies such as BPCL's alkaline electrolyser and KPIT's fuel cell-powered bus. By deploying these innovations, the partners aim to enhance the hydrogen ecosystem in India and provide clean, efficient solutions for public transportation. The initiative also involves evaluating fuel cell bus performance in Kerala's various climate conditions to ensure the reliability and durability of the technology. BPCL's commitment to producing high-purity green hydrogen for the buses and gaining practical experience in hydrogen dispensing will contribute to establishing a robust hydrogen mobility framework in the country. The project marks a significant milestone in transitioning to hydrogen as a clean fuel for public transport in India, showcasing the potential for wider adoption of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles across the nation.
