Arup, in partnership with Asia Infrastructure Solutions (AIS), has been awarded a consultancy job for a new green transit system in Hong Kong. The Smart and Green Mass Transit System in East Kowloon will feature a 1km road tunnel, viaducts, and eight stations, providing a feeder transit system to connect uphill areas to the existing railway network. The system will incorporate 'green' modes of transportation, including trackless trams and electric or hydrogen buses, promoting sustainability. Arup and AIS will assist in developing the regulatory framework for the system and provide various services such as engineering design, environmental consultancy, and project management. The project, worth around £26.3M, aims to enhance accessibility and introduce innovative transport solutions. The mass transit system forms part of a larger development plan in Hong Kong to improve connectivity between different areas, emphasizing sustainability and efficiency in transportation.
