Ballard Power Systems has received an order for 200 fuel cell modules from New Flyer Industries (NFI) under a long-term supply contract. The agreement, which includes the first order for 100 fuel cell modules, is a significant step in advancing the use of hydrogen fuel cells in public transportation. The modules will be exclusively used by New Flyer, a leading bus manufacturer, in its Xcelsior Charge FC buses. These buses, equipped with Ballard's FCmove-HD+ fuel cell module with 100 kW power output, will operate in various states, including California, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, and New York. NFI, the parent company of New Flyer, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Ballard and the opportunity to introduce cutting-edge zero-emission buses to the market. According to David White, NFI's Executive Vice President of Supply Management, transit operators are increasingly turning to fuel cell technology to achieve their sustainability goals, emphasizing the importance of supporting customers in their transition to zero-emission fleets. Ballard's Chief Commercial Officer, David Mucciacciaro, highlighted the confidence shown by New Flyer in the performance of Ballard's fuel cell engines. He also mentioned the growing market interest in the benefits of hydrogen fuel cell buses, including their long range, rapid refueling capabilities, operational efficiency in various weather conditions, and high availability. Both companies reaffirmed their dedication to promoting sustainable transportation solutions and supporting the shift towards zero-emission public transportation.
