In a pioneering move, Chamba in Himachal Pradesh is set to establish the first Green Hydrogen Mobility Station, signaling a significant advancement towards sustainable energy solutions in the state. The Chief Minister ceremonially laid the foundation stone for this groundbreaking pilot project today, which is expected to have a budget of around Rs 14 crore and is on track for completion by August 2025. Led by the current state government, the initiative is being executed by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and will be positioned near NHPC's Chamera-3 power station, incorporating a 300-kilowatt grid-connected solar power plant to fulfill its energy needs. The primary objective is to produce 20 kg of green hydrogen daily, stored at high pressures for fueling a green hydrogen bus. Moreover, a hydrogen dispenser unit will be set up to enable the refueling of these buses. This strategic move aims to introduce green hydrogen buses to the region, with the intention of elevating awareness about green hydrogen in a remote area of India. NHPC has already kickstarted the procurement process for a green hydrogen bus for Chamba, ensuring readiness once the pilot project commences operations. The project is anticipated to not only bring in revenue but also create job opportunities, bolstering the economic landscape of the region. The Chief Minister emphasized the state government's vision to transform Himachal Pradesh into a 'Green Energy State' by March 2026, with a core focus on leveraging green energy to meet requirements and promoting sustainable energy practices in the region.
