The European Commission has announced the approval of €1.4bn State aid to advance the European hydrogen value chain through the IPCEI Hy2Move project. This funding, delivered via an Important Project of Common European Interest, aims to support research and innovation towards the industrial deployment of hydrogen technologies in transport sectors. Seven Member States, including Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia, and Spain, are involved in this project. Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, highlighted the importance of hydrogen in achieving zero-emissions mobility and transport. The IPCEI Hy2Move will inject €1.4bn of public funding, expected to leverage an additional €3.3bn in private investments. It will support 11 companies and 13 projects focusing on various hydrogen technologies for transport means like road, maritime, and aviation. The project aims to develop fuel cell vehicle platforms, high-performance fuel cell technologies for ships and locomotives, onboard hydrogen storage solutions for aircraft, and hydrogen production technologies for mobility applications. By 2031, the project is expected to create around 3,600 direct jobs and numerous indirect opportunities, contributing to the decarbonization of Europe's transport sectors.
