In Cologne, Germany, Solaris Bus & Coach has recently introduced eight Urbino 18 hydrogen buses to the public transport fleet of Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK). This addition contributes to RVK's already impressive lineup of 46 operating Solaris hydrogen buses. Solaris is in the process of fulfilling an order for 20 more hydrogen buses, a mix of 12-meter and 18-meter articulated buses. Once this order is complete, RVK will boast a fleet of 84 hydrogen-powered Solaris buses, the largest in Europe. The newly delivered articulated hydrogen buses are equipped with a 100-kW fuel cell system and can be refueled with over 50 kilograms of gaseous hydrogen stored in eight rooftop tanks. These buses also feature a modular drive system, increasing passenger capacity by eliminating the need for a traditional engine compartment. Additional enhancements include an efficient air conditioning system, advanced monitoring and passenger information tools, and support systems for the driver. Hydrogen buses offer numerous advantages like zero-emission operation, high passenger capacity, long range, and a quick refueling process, making them ideal for areas that connect rural regions with cities and transport large numbers of commuters daily. RVK's commitment to hydrogen technology is evident through their partnership with Solaris and their strategic implementation of hydrogen buses. With over 700 Solaris Urbino hydrogen buses contracted by 40 customers in 10 European countries, Solaris is playing a significant role in the European market. The company not only provides cutting-edge hydrogen buses but also offers after-sales service and maintenance support.
