Neil Wang, the Founder and CEO of Foton Mobility Distribution (FMD), has made a significant move by acquiring the 50 per cent shareholding previously held by the Go Zero Group, in partnership with bus industry operator Scott Riley. The transaction signals the end of a four-year relationship between FMD and Go Zero Group. Foton's T5 EV light-duty truck has maintained its position as the top-selling light-duty EV in Australia, finding adoption in the fleets of major companies like Woolworths, Ausgrid, and Mainfreight. Recent data reveals Foton's success with six truck sales in 2025, out of which five occurred in March.
Beyond trucks, Foton has also ventured into providing electric and hydrogen buses to Australian state and local governments. The company has already supplied hydrogen buses to Torrens Transit in Adelaide and MetroTas in Hobart, with a substantial contract to deliver 126 electric buses to Transport for NSW between 2025 and 2027. Wang emphasizes the company's focus on electric buses under his leadership, highlighting plans to invest in the bus industry, complete the Nowra factory timely, offer local community training, and boost the local content of their products. The acquisition of Go Zero Group's shareholding and the strategic direction set by Wang and Riley position FMD for continued success in the evolving landscape of electric and hydrogen vehicles.
